Search Generative AI Performance Reports in Google Search Console

Google has launched dedicated Search Generative AI performance reports in Google Search Console, providing webmasters with unprecedented transparency regarding how content appears in AI-driven search surfaces.

Tracking AI Visibility
For years, digital marketers relied on standard performance metrics in Search Console to track traditional organic blue links. The digital landscape changed on 3 June 2026, when Google rolled out specific panels to monitor visibility inside AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative AI features in Discover. This separation of data finally gives publishers a clear view of their footprint within conversational search results.

Available Data Metrics
The initial rollout of the report focuses strictly on top-level awareness data. Users can filter and break down information across several key criteria:

  • Impressions: Total volume of times a website URL appears within AI-generated responses.
  • Pages: Detailed lists of exact URLs surfaced by the AI models.
  • Geography: Country-level performance showing where the AI queries originated.
  • Devices: Technical breakdown of desktop versus mobile visibility for Search.
  • Timeline: Hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly tracking of search trends.

Crucially, the report does not include click data, rankings, or click-through rates (CTR) at this stage. Google intends to add more advanced metrics as testing progresses.

Opt-Out and Regulations
The initial feature rollout targeted a subset of website owners in the United Kingdom due to regulatory demands from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Alongside the data dashboards, Google introduced an AI content toggle.

Notably, this gives publishers the legal power to block their content from appearing in AI responses or being used to fine-tune AI models. Restricting AI visibility carries no traditional organic ranking penalty.

Ultimately, this update bridges the gap between historical search tracking and the conversational future. Publishers should use these insights to tailor their technical content for conversational AI engines.

The new Generative AI performance report in Google Search Console is available to eligible website owners in Australia. However, because Google launched this as a gradual, limited rollout, it is only appearing on a subset of websites globally while they gather feedback. Whether you see it depends on your specific website property rather than your physical location in Australia.

What to Look For
If your website has been granted access to the feature, you will find it by navigating to: Performance > Search Results > Generative AI

What the Report Tracks
If you do have access, the data is highly localised and will help you track your visibility within Australia. The report isolates data from AI Overviews, AI Mode, and generative AI features in Discover. You will be able to filter and see:

  • Impressions: How often your URLs appear in Google’s AI-generated answers.
  • Pages: The specific URLs from your site being used as sources.
  • Countries: You can filter specifically for Australia to see how your local Sydney or national audience is interacting with your content via AI.
  • Devices & Dates: Granular tracking down to the hourly level.

Note: In this initial phase, the report is “barebones” and does not include click data, click-through rates (CTR), or specific query keywords.

If you are managing a Sydney-based digital property and the “Generative AI” tab hasn’t appeared yet, do not panic. Google is actively expanding the roll-out. In the meantime, you can monitor your overall visibility, as Google confirms that traffic coming from AI Overviews is still bundled into your standard Search Console performance metrics.
