Google Business Profiles and Google Analytics 4 Integration

Google has introduced a native integration between Google Business Profile (GBP) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4). This major milestone bridges the long-standing gap between off-site local discovery and website conversions. Previously, local marketers had to rely entirely on manual UTM tracking parameters or switch between separate dashboards to measure local performance.

What is Changing?
It’s now possible to link your Google Business Profile directly to your GA4 property through the Product Links section in the Admin panel. Once connected, a dedicated reporting collection automatically appears in the GA4 left-hand menu panel. This seamless update pulls valuable first-party data straight from Google Maps and Search into your primary dashboard.

The new report tracks seven core local business metrics:

  • Total Interactions
  • Website Clicks
  • Phone Calls
  • Direction Requests
  • Direct Messages
  • Customer Bookings
  • Menu Views

Key Limitations to Keep in Mind
While this update simplifies reporting, the native integration comes with a few strict parameters:

1. Aggregated Multi-Location Data: If you manage multiple locations, GA4 combines all metrics into one total dataset. You cannot filter or segment by individual addresses.

2. Standard Reports Only: These new local metrics are strictly locked out of Custom Explorations, comparison segments, or custom filters.

3. Six-Month Data Window: GA4 retains this imported Business Profile data on a rolling six-month window. This means historical local data beyond six months will not surface in your reports.

Next Steps for Marketers
To take advantage of this feature, visit the Google Analytics Admin Console to confirm your user permissions and link your profiles. For multi-location enterprise brands, continue using manual UTM tracking alongside this update to preserve your granular location data.

This integration helps bridge the gap for measuring in-store intent by providing proxy metrics for physical visits. By centralising these insights, businesses can better understand the full customer journey and how assets like Search and Maps contribute to overall cross-channel value.
